Development

The Whittier Alliance welcomes sustainable and attractive development in the neighborhood and encourages developers, big and small, to work with the organization and with Whittier residents to create residential and/or commercial buildings that are interesting, attractive and affordable. One of the key aims of our strategic plan is to improve housing quality and choice in Whittier.

We aim to be a resource to residents in the neighborhood by informing them about Planning Commission processes and upcoming developments and providing opportunities to examine plans and give feedback to developers.

We also encourage developers to get in touch with the Whittier Alliance as early as possible in the planning process. As plans become more definite, our monthly Community Issues Meetings provide a forum where developers can present designs to the very people who choose to live and work in the neighborhood and get valuable feedback. Past projects in Whittier have gained more visually interesting designs, added resident amenities such as bike parking and incorporated more inviting green space as a result of consultation with residents and the Whittier Alliance. It is an important process for both parties.
