Support Whittier

Whittier Depends on You

The staff of the Whittier Alliance and the volunteer Board of Directors are committed to continuing the outreach and advocacy needed to assure that Whittier continues to be a healthy, safe, and vibrant neighborhood for everyone. But we need your help to make this happen! The Whittier Alliance operates on a very efficient budget. While the Neighborhood Revitalization Program has provided funding for many functions of the Whittier Alliance in pervious years, not all the activities are covered by our NRP funding. We need your financial support to continue delivering the resources and information that you value and to advocate for the prosperity and progress of the Whittier neighborhood.

Whittier Works For You

Some of the ways the Whittier Alliance has worked for you this past year, both independently and in partnership with others, includes:
  • Helping to achieve a 17% reduction in crime over last year. Over the last several years Whittier has been one of the few neighborhoods with lower crime rates in every category. The Whittier Alliance has a bi-monthly seat at the Law Enforcement Group (LEG) table to help identify problem properties, chronic offenders, crime patterns and advocate for targeted patrols. We started our own problem properties list and we participate in the Restorative Justice program.
  • Sponsoring the Green Fair to help inform residents & businesses about reducing our collective carbon footprint.
  • Offering our Neighborhood Revitalization low-interest loan funds to help single family, rental property, and commercial business owners make improvements and upgrades.
  • Providing more than 300 families the chance to attend the World of Whittler; games and treats for over 100 youth at the July Clinton Field Park Ice Cream Social and the August Field Day Events. Whittier’s Neighborhood Revitalization Funds also covered the cost of swimming lessons for 60 Whittier kids
  • Supporting stable housing ― the foreclosure rate in Whittier is lower than the city average and much lower than other neighborhoods with a similar demographic.
  • Representing our neighborhood’s vision of what is suitable for the neighborhood when collaborating with Hennepin County Medical Center, Salem Church and Brighton Development, and the Mpls College of Art and Design, as well as city planners on the Lyn-Lake Small Area Plan on design and development ideas.
  • Spending many, many hours organizing and facilitating meetings and public forums on development proposals, transit, and zoning change proposals, as well as park events and proposals. We have also provided you with information about Rank Choice voting and an opportunity to meet City Council candidates at our 6th Ward Candidate forum.
