Whittier Alliance has partnered with Hennepin County to help businesses gain access to County grant funding to assist in diverting waste from trash streams and get into compliance with a new County ordinance requiring recycling and organics waste streams by January, 1st, 2020.

The Ordinance states that any public, nonprofit, and for profit businesses that generate one ton of Trash per week or contract for eight cubic yards or more per week of Collection Service for Trash as of January 1, 2020.

The commercial sector generates over 2/3 of the waste in Hennepin County and
Whether you are looking to implement new recycling or organic programs or if you want to improve your current system there are resources available to your business.

Whittier Alliance staff can:
  •  Help you assess the current waste needs of your business.
  • Identify areas of potential improvement.
  • Work directly with waste haulers and the county on your behalf to save you time.
  • Work with staff to communicate and train best practices for sustainable waste reduction.

If you would like to know more about the possibilities and benefits of waste diversion contact business@whittieralliance.org.

Whittier is home to a thriving food scene with Eat Street

Whittier Alliance would like to recognize these businesses who have shown a dedication to the environment and proactively reducing the amount of waste they contribute to landfills
