Candidate for Resident Seat, 2021 - 2024
Why are you interested in serving on the WA Board of Directors?
I have lived and worked in the Whittier neighborhood for 10 years and love our neighborhood. Serving on the board since 2019, I look forward to continuing contributing to enrich our community through a lens of equity and inclusion.
What experiences, talents, or perspectives do you possess that you feel would be an asset to the Whittier Alliance?
I joined the board in early 2019, then as a business rep and chair of the Business Association. I enjoy drawing from my history of organizing, advocacy, nonprofit work, event coordination, and board experience to serve our community.
Describe any experiences you’ve had in serving the neighborhood and/or larger community. (Volunteer positions, committees, organizations, businesses, etc.)
I've worked in Whittier from 2011-2020, worked with the WA Board to forward anti-racism initiatives, helped organize the Eat Street Festival, volunteered at community events, served on subcommittees, and done cleanups throughout the neighborhood.
Within a world riddled with injustices and disparities, the above is a big undertaking. As an organization, the Whittier Alliance is trying, failing, progressing, learning and growing in these pursuits of equity and inclusion. However big or small, how would you support these efforts as a board member?
Continue my work on our anti-racism taskforce to bring training to the WA board & staff, assess where our internal structure needs to be systemically reworked, engage in community conversations and elevate underrepresented voices in our work.
