Learn about our Annual Election
Our Annual Election will kick off on Friday, June 12 at 5pm. A ballot will be sent electronically to all registered Whittier Alliance voters.
Ballots will also be available in person at the Whittier Alliance office (10 E 25th St) and delivered in person upon request. If you would like to vote from the Whittier Alliance office or have your ballot delivered, please email Anna (anna@whittieralliance.org). Ballots are available in English, Spanish, and Somali upon request.
Our Annual Election will include voting for the Board of Directors (information on running for the Board below!) as well as a vote on a proposed change to our organizational bylaws. You can see the proposed bylaws changes, along with comments and explanations, here.
If you would like to make a motion from the floor to be included in the Annual Election ballot, you can learn about the process for doing so by reading our voting procedures.
Run for the Whittier Alliance Board of Directors
Whittier Alliance is a nonprofit organization, which means we are governed by a board of directors. The board helps guide our strategic thinking as an organization and ensures that we’re acting responsibly financially. They also support special projects or events as needed.
There are no professional qualifications needed to serve on our board (although you do need to be over the age of 18, a registered WA voter, and have attended a WA event in the past year). It can be helpful to have some experience with nonprofit finances, event management, nonprofit operations, or community development, but you can apply for the board without experience in any of those areas.
Our board members serve for limited terms, so we have an annual election for board members whose terms are ending. This year, there are 7 open seats: 4 resident representative seats, 1 non-profit representative seat, one for profit/property owner (non-resident) business representative seat, and one seat representing either a non-profit or for profit business.
