  • Hennepin County Emergency Rental Assistance

    You are eligible if:

    • You live in Hennepin County

    • Your household income is 30% of the area median income

    • You received an eviction court summons

    • Different community organization providers may have additional eligibility requirements.

    How to apply:

    • Go to https://renthelphennepin.hdsallita.com/

    • SCROLL DOWN to where it says “Tenants Apply Today”

    • Fill out the pre-screener. Note: You will need your court summons filing ID.

    • Plan to attend your court hearing no matter what.

  • Stable Homes Stable Schools

    ONE-TIME — You are eligible if:

    • You have a kid in MPS (pre-K to 5th grade).

    • You owe back rent or utility payments.

    • You have an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

    ONGOING — You are eligible if:

    • You have a kid in MPS at an eligible school.

    • Your child is experiencing homelessness.

    • Your family’s income is at or below 30% area median income.

    How to apply:

    • Talk to your school social worker.

    • School social workers make program referrals.

    • You can usually connect with the social worker for your kid’s school by calling the main school office and asking for the social worker.

  • Hearts & Hammers

    Hearts & Hammers provides exterior painting and home improvement assistance at NO COST to homeowners. Assistance is completed by volunteers from corporations, businesses, organizations, and churches. The majority of their work is completed in only one day.

  • NeighborWorks Home Partners

    NeighborWorks Home Partners is a nonprofit organization that helps residents in the Twin Cities buy, fix, and keep their homes. They offer a comprehensive suite of services, including homebuyer education, pre-purchase counseling, down payment assistance programs, and affordable home improvement loans. The organization also partners with local municipalities to provide specialized financing options and is committed to eliminating racial disparities in homeownership rates.

  • Hennepin County Home Repairs

    The Hennepin County Home Repairs Program offers deferred, zero-interest loans to low- and moderate-income homeowners for essential home repairs and maintenance. These loans, which can be for up to $30,000, are used to address health, safety, and habitability issues such as furnace replacement, plumbing, electrical work, and roof repair. The loan is forgiven over a 15-year period as long as the homeowner continues to live in and own the home

  • Homebuyer Workshops & Counseling

    Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County provides Home Stretch workshops and one-on-one counseling to prepare residents for every step of the homebuying process. The workshops cover topics like determining home readiness, understanding mortgages, and managing finances, while the counseling sessions offer personalized action plans. These programs are designed to help low- and moderate-income individuals overcome barriers to homeownership and achieve their housing goals.

  • Weatherization Assistance Program

    The Minnesota Weatherization Assistance Program, offered through the Department of Commerce, provides free home energy upgrades to income-eligible homeowners and renters. The program's goal is to permanently reduce energy bills and improve the health and safety of homes by providing services like insulation, air leakage reduction, and furnace repair or replacement. Eligibility is often based on qualifying for the state's Energy Assistance Program, with priority given to households with senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, or children.

  • Low-Income Rental Efficiency Program

  • Homeowner Efficiency Redo Opportunity (HERO)

    Are you a homeowner? CenterPoint Energy offers the HERO program which offers qualifying homeowners a FREE energy review and will pay at least 50% of the costs for qualifying installed weatherization and high-efficiency equipment upgrades.

  • Home Energy Savings Program

    HESP offers free appliance replacements for outdated refrigerators, freezers, and wall/window air conditioners unit. This program is available to income-qualified homes and rental properties.
