Community Engagement Dinner
In 2023 the format of the Community Engagement Committee shifted to a Community Dinner. On the Second Thursday of the month free dinner is provided by the Whittier Alliance, through the support of our donors, giving Whittier community members a chance to come together, meet neighbors, share stories and resources, and enjoy a meal from a neighborhood restaurant or caterer. This is also an opportunity for organizations to engage with community members one on one. Community members have had the chance to engage around the redesign of Lyndale Avenue S., provide feedback on the Whittier Alliance rebranding effort, check out the recently renovated Whittier Recreation Center, hear from Guittara en el Barrio, respond to the design concepts for the former Kmart Site, provide feedback on proposed rebuild of Franklin Ave and more.
Community Dinners are open to all, EVERYONE IS WELCOME.
Do you have an idea you'd like to share, or a project you'd like to support? A question about an issue? Maybe you're looking to get involved with local initiatives and meet more of your neighbors. The Community Engagement Dinner is a great place to start.

Membership & Voting Eligibility
NOTE-Membership is not required to attend the Community Dinners. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
As a Whittier Alliance Member you help steer the direction of the organization, inform the positions we take and the activities we do. Sometimes these decisions come to a community vote, and those can happen in a committee meeting like the Community Engagement Dinner. This committee also has a Chair who is elected once a year, usually in the spring at the first meeting after our annual meeting. The Chair works with staff to lead the committee and holds a seat on the Whittier Alliance Board of Directors. YOUR VOTE MATTERS.
If you live, own property or a business in the Whittier Neighborhood, you are a member of the Whittier Alliance. Per Article III, Section F. of the Whittier Alliance By-Laws, residents can verify their voting eligibility electronically or in person by providing a bill, account, or start-of-service statement due or dated within the past 30 days for: phone, TV, internet, solid waste, sewer, electric, gas or water, banking or credit card, rent or mortgage; an ID card showing a name and Whittier address; current residential lease or rent agreement; current student housing documentation; or utilize a registered third party voucher.
Business and property owners must provide documentation of ownership that lists the owner’s name, the property’s Whittier address, and the full business name; a WA representative will respond with a signed notice indicating voting eligibility has been established. For full details on membership and voting eligibility please read the Whittier Alliance By-Laws. Copies available on request or on our website.
