Our special meeting included local artists Guante and Jamie Kubat.
Kyle "Guante" Tran Myhre is a hip hop artist, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, activist and educator based in Minneapolis. He has performed everywhere from the United Nations, to the Soundset Festival, to countless colleges, clubs, high schools, and theaters across the country, and his work has been featured on Upworthy, Welcome to Night Vale, Everyday Feminism, and beyond.
Jamie Kubat is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Minneapolis, MN. When not noodling around their college print shop or local book arts center, they can be found running loose in the wilder parts of Minnesota, listening to the trees or digging up rocks.

What's this bylaws proposal all about? This video provides a concise summary and understanding of this revision project. |
If you live, own a business or own property in the Whittier neighborhood in Minneapolis, you are a member of the Whittier Alliance. As a member, you should have the ability to vote on who serves on the Whittier Alliance board of directors, run to serve on the board and influence how the organization operates in service to the neighborhood. However, the Whittier Alliance's current bylaws (the key governing document of the organization) do not actually grant all members the right to vote and are restrictive in who can run to serve on the board.
With the goal of becoming a more equitable neighborhood organization, which allows all of its members access to participate, the Whittier Alliance board is proposing changes to our current bylaws. These changes must be voted on by the membership in order to be implemented. Votes will be cast during the Special Meeting on Thursday January 14, 2021 and a voting period of 7 days will follow for those who could not attend the meeting to confirm eligibility and cast their vote online or in person at the Whittier Alliance by appointment. Further details about the meeting content and how to confirm your eligibility to vote are included in the "How to Vote" section below. Closed captioning on the video is available in English, Spanish and Somali. First, click the cc icon on the YouTube Video menu bar on the bottom of the video screen. Then, click the gear/settings icon to the right of the cc icon to select your language.
This presentation will cover: -What is the Whittier Alliance? -What are Bylaws? -Why are we proposing changes? -What has been the process up to this point? -What are the changes? And reasons for them? -How do you vote on these changes? |
